The Complexity of Pragmatic Competence Across Languages: An Analysis of Turkish ESL Students’ Advice-giving Strategies

Studies revealed that English as a second language (ESL) speakers and native (NES) often used different strategies to offer advice in English. Since these differences can cause cross-cultural misunderstandings misattribution of intent between ESL NES, it is important identify them. For this purpose, study analyzed the structural pragmatic advice-giving NES Turkish speakers. 18 20 students were recruited asked written given cases WCDT questionnaire.
